Is the Material World an illusion?

मोह निसा सब सोवनिहारा |
देखहि सपन अनेक प्रकारा ||

Philosophers and Vedic scriptures call this visible material world a dream. Its expansions, past present, future, time, place, substance are all dream in play. This creation of Brahma’s will is his fantasy world, dream world. Even, Brahma Himself, is the product of a dream. Let us discuss this some other time. You dream of mansions, and different things. Can your dream transport you to the paradise it builds up? Say you dream of mammoths, can the dream land you back to ice age on waking up. After great experimentation, scientists credit the entire dream experience to a small cell lying in some corner the brain. The poor entity is so tiny that can sit on the tip of a needle. How can such a tiny entity manage the entire dream affair? Our universe operates in miraculous ways. What we call one universe or solar system is present within the boundaries of every atom with all its might. The centre of an atom (nucleus) is as mighty as the sun. Misuse of a proton can cause chaos in the ecosphere. Outside the atom, Electrons revolve around orbits while the nature of neutrons is yet a mystery. Countless solar systems appear like dreams in the Mayic field. It is impossible to track the number of atoms in a tiny water droplet let alone the entire solar system? To gauge the expanse of Maheshwara is a laughable idea. It is like trying the count the number of atoms present in the Nebula Ambit (with around 3 and a Half Billion stars). Vaikuntha, Shivalok, Saket and Golok are different names of the same knowledge principle,(चिद्घन). Therefore, as per your inner alignment, you attain these abodes. These abodes are full of knowledge, eternal and everlasting.

Characteristics of Eternal Associates of the Lord

The associates of the lord resemble Him in characteristics. The perfectly resemble the Lord in demeanour. Irrespective of the abode, they are all embodiments of bliss, non-different from Him. Their clothing, garments, accessories are knowledge personified. Here Golok is mentioned, but in this regard all abodes stand parallel since the principle is non-different. The Gopis, Cows, Bullocks, Children in Golok are eternal. Their form, complexion, age, height and mannerisms are eternal. But to support the Lord in his pastimes, a switch of emotion can take place any time, since the spiritual world operates on emotions. Such a change happens instantly. For instance, When Lord Vamana appeared, his four arms, crown, earrings, conch, disk, club and lotus appeared effortlessly.

The Lord’s Garments, ornaments, Paraphernelia are not material. They appear and disappear when needed. For example- The accessories of 4 handed form Vamana dev disappeared as soon as he assumed the dwarf Brahmachari form of Vamana. Later this Vamana Form expands to Lord Trivikrama (Massive form of Lord Vishnu). This potency to switch operates in the Lord’s divine abode. Time has no say there. The physical traits of the Lord’s associates do not change with flowing time. A momentary change may occur. Like- an actor on stage changes his costume. This change is temporary to achieve a purpose on hand. Let me site another example- In Vaikuntha, the Sanak Kumaras curse Jaya and Vijaya to become demons for 3 lifetimes. Was this a result of Karmic Load? No, it was not. The curse was to stir a pastime for the Lord. After stipulated period, they regained their original form as doorkeepers. Vaikuntha is never vacant. When Jay and Vijay descended on earth to fulfil the curse, were their duties transferred to a new pair of doorkeepers. This too did not happen. The three lifetimes of Jay and Vijay lasted for 1 day of Brahma (1 Kalpa). And Brahma’s lifetime (100 years) is 1 day in Vaikuntha. So, the absence of Jay and Vijay from Vaikuntha was equivalent to a second in Vaikuntha.

Purpose of Golok

All the Lord’s associates are in constant effort to please him through their actions. The purpose of all actions is to render pleasure to Him, though one’s approach may differ from the other. This is their mode of deriving joy. They not only praise and love him, but there is room for fight, scold and Kittle with the Lord. Shri Krishna is the life force of Golok. Everybody feels as if Krishna anxiously watches them and are united in his loving company in eternity. Nanadananda Krishna is the life of Golok. The purpose of Golok is to assist the Lord in his Pastimes.

How did Brahma create the universe?

Philosophers consider the world to be a dream. Since it is material existence, the frailties of matter exist here. But this world is the sport ground of knowledge. “सर्व खिलदं ब्रह्म”. It is the reflection of the eternal world. Dreams don’t appear from thin air. Our dreams are formed due to past samskaras accumulated over previous lifetimes. Brahma’s creation wasn’t born out of a magic wand. He meditated on the lord for an extended period. The lord triggered the Samskaras of the previous creation in his heart. These seeds formed the base for present creation.

Realizing our eternal form

The Vaishnava saints say- the goal is to recognize out eternal position in the spiritual world. Being ignorant of our true identity, we wander recklessly in the gory cycle of life and death overcome by attachment and aversion. The attachment to name and form should be directed to the eternal form. Thus you get relieved from the endless cycle of birth and death. The eternal abode is called (लोक) since it illuminates the material world. Golok is the source. But, due to ignorance, we mistake its reflection, the material world, to be real. We are deluded by its great potency. This is Moha Nidra (slumber of attachment मोह निद्रा). This Moha nidra must break. The upcoming chapter describes Golok and family, most appealing to devotees of the form principle. You would have developed a bond with your adorable Lord, if this is your faith; if not, leave it up to him.
